Belgium

We spent some time in Belgium in spring of 2023. We started in Antwerp, then went to Bruges and Brussels.

Belgium is, of course, famous for its chocolate and its beers, and both are delicious. There is much more to the country than these, though. The food is excellent, the architecture is amazing, the people are friendly, and the vibe is pretty laid-back.

This is the "most photographed spot in Bruges," and with good reason.
This is an older hotel on one of the many canals in Bruges. I liked the effect of the fire.
From left to right, these are the flags of Europe, Belgium, the region of Flanders, and the city of Bruges.
This is a closer view of the castle in the first photo, in the glow of the evening light.
This is a fairly common scene in Bruges - a bridge over a canal, with a lovely church in the background.
This is the Poechenellekelder tavern in Brussels. As you can tell, biking is pretty big in Belgium.
I think the red doors, next to the white steeples, provide a striking effect here.
I enjoy making photos of reflections.
This is the Grand-Place in Brussels. It looks like this only early in the morning, before crowds of people arrive.
Great architecture on one of the canals of Bruges
These are some colorful buildings above restaurants in the Markt in Bruges.
I like to think that the statue on top of the building on the right is a runner breaking the tape at a race.
I liked the shadow on the building from across the square.
The invisible diagonal line here caught my eye.
A person can see some lovely images early in the morning.
At the top of this building is an angel with lightning bolts.
In my notes, I wrote, "Cool buildings in Bruges." I can't argue that.
The early-morning sunlight makes these golden figures stand out.
The white building is the hotel we stayed at in Bruges.
This building is a geometer's delight.
It's amazing to think many of the buildings in Belgium were erected in the 1600s, and they're still in great shape.
In Brussels, many buildings have comic-book art on the exterior walls.
There's a lot going on in this photo.
The artists doing these murals did a superb job.
Another building in Brussels' Grand-Place
I like the reflections of the trees, as well as the buildings.

Steeples in the Grand-Place in Brussels
I'm still amazed at the wonderful architecture in Belgium.
I think it's fun to see a building in different types of light at different times of day.
This is "Manneken Pis" in Brussels (translates to "Little Man Pissing"). It's a pretty famous statue. I'll just leave it at that.
This wall mural is titled, "Manneken Peace."
This is a group of children biking and skateboarding at a park in Brussels. I think the banner says what pretty much everyone feels.
