Maui flowers and wildlife

We spent some time on the Hawaiian island of Maui. We went on the road to Hana, stayed in Hana, and spent some time in Lahaina, Paia, and Haleakala National Park.

The first 30 pictures (this page) are of waves, trees, and rainbows on Maui. The next 22 photos (found here) are of flowers and wildlife on the island. It's incredibly gorgeous! Like most of my photos, they don't do justice to the area - you'll just have to go there yourself.

Sea turtles were hanging out at the beach while we were there, and it was "whale season," too.

This is one of my favorite photos of this trip - a sea turtle looking right at me.
Sometimes the color seems impossible
Here are a mama whale and her calf, just hanging out.
Here's a monk seal, pretty relaxed on Ho'okipa Beach in Paia.
This sea turtle, covered with sand, seems like he's been there a while.
Maui is filled with flowers that, for some reason, don't grow in Minnesota.
Maui also has a lot of banana trees, which also don't grow in Minnesota.
These rocks are known as "Dragon's Teeth," and are found at Makaluapuna Point.
I like that this turtle's path is being shown pretty clearly.
I'm not certain if these turtles are related, but they certainly seem friendly toward each other.
I like the color and the shape of this flower.
We were told that sunrise or sunset at Haleakala Crater were "must-sees." Well, when we got there, this was our view. Yeah, it was kinda rainy that evening.
I like the way this flower gets brighter as you look from top to bottom.
Lots of turtles come to the beach to rest. The worker there said the most she had counted at one time was 187.
Here's another beautiful flower at the Ko'olau Forest Reserve.
It looks to me like the stems and tips of this flower are the reverse of the previous flower.
The black sand is gorgeous near Ahihi Cove.
Two turtles taking a break at the same time
I just caught the fluke of this whale before it went back underwater.
Three newbies coming to rest near friends
This flower was striking in the way its red needles contrasted with its surroundings.
One turtle waves "hello" to its friend as it heads back out to the water.
