This was another spring break trip. We hiked to the bottom, taking the Bright Angel Trail down. We stayed overnight at Phantom Ranch, and hiked back up the next day, via the South Kaibab Trail. It was great, eye-popping scenery, and I highly recommend it.
We heard during one of the interpretive sessions given by a Park Ranger that the average time spent hiking in the Grand Canyon is something like 17 minutes. I think that's a bummer. Even if you don't go all the way to the bottom, it's well worth your time to meander down a trail for an hour or more, especially close to sunrise or sunset, just walking and taking in the awe-inspiring beauty.
